Sea of Tranquility is a two-piece synth band from North Carolina.  Their music is reminiscent of 80’s music.  When asked to describe their sound in the duo said, it is modern 80’s music with alt-rock guitar and pop lyrics.  Chandler & Worth told WCBG all about their music and their goals for the future!

Chandler was a bartender at a bar Worth frequented.  They would discuss multiple things, including music.  After getting to know each other, Worth asked Chandler if he wanted to sing in his band and the rest is history.  Chandler came up with the name, Sea of Tranquility—he said that he had the name in mind before when he was writing music and it seemed fitting to use it.

Their first official music video was for their track “1AM.”  Chandler wrote the song and it is based on his experiences from two summers ago.  The duo worked with young videographers to plan out the imagery and story they wanted to show the world.  The song is about being in love with someone and thinking about them all the time, even at 1AM.  Worth mentioned that they looked for really cool spots in their hometown to use in the video and that the concept with the TVs was one they had in mind for a long time.

When asked what their favorite lyric that they have ever written is, Chandler said that it would have to be off the song “Into the Deep.”  The lyrics are: “Take my hand, come with me/ I’m calling you into the deep.”  For the duo, music is a way for them to express their feelings.  Chandler tends to focus on writing the music while Worth states that he works with the production of the tracks.  Chandler and Worth tend to bounce ideas off each other and work well to combine their talents to produce sick tracks.

“Music is when life experiences and ideas come together.  It’s sharing a story we can relate to.” -Sea of Tranquility
The duo states that they do not release music for other people.  It is their story to tell and share with others.  The music is written for them to share their story and send a message.  They are influenced by artists like The 1975, and synth bands as well as Blink-182 and My Chemical Romance.

In 2020, Sea of Tranquility is aiming to release a new song about every 6-8 weeks and to book more shows!
